Prayer
We believe that if we as a church are going to accomplish anything of significance for Christ and the advancement of his kingdom, it will only come about by depending upon Jesus’ life-giving Spirit. As the Scriptures says “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”
One of the most significant ways we can depend upon God for life and ministry is through being constant in prayer, which we seek to cultivate in four ways:
1. Corporately
During corporate worship we seek to lead the congregation in intentional prayers for our church family, for other churches in the area, for our government, for our mission partners, and for the world.
2. Spontaneously
When people share a need or a burden, we encourage people to make it their normal practice to pause in the moment to ask “Can I pray for you right now?”
3. Personally
The Northwood Directory is set up as a private tool for our members to pray for each person in the church. Even if you don’t know the person, we encourage you to pray the Scripture you read that day over them.
4. Regularly
Every other month we gather on Sunday evenings at 4pm to pray about kingdom, whole church, and major life concerns. We provide childcare during the meeting and dinner afterwards to minimize any barriers to gathering with us to pray.
